Description
This painting is part of the series “Wild Animals at the Kaiserstuhl”
The Kaiserstuhl (my home) is a very special region in south-west Germany; many wild animals live here that are hardly found elsewhere.
The naturalistically painted bird is a red kite. The red kite is a very common bird of prey in Germany. More than half of the entire world population breeds in Germany (my home country). Distinctive features of the red kite are its deeply forked tail and its rust-coloured ground colour. The background of the picture was first made by me in the pouring technique, had to dry for a few days and then was painted with the motif. The dynamic background creates a contrast to the calm bird. The red kite is the central motif in the foreground of the picture. Painted in great detail, especially the reddish-brown plumage. The painting is covered with a protective varnish.
