Description

At the Market is a painting made with oil on canvas applied with a palette knife, characterised by the three-dimensionality of the material painting that enhances its main features and details.

It is coloured by earthy colours that together with the identifying colours of the different elements build up the work. The structure of the canvas is therefore formed by the different figures that turn around making purchases, mainly following a path with a shape similar to that of a semicircle, which is also capable of enveloping the viewer, making them feel involved and present in the market place.

In the centre is therefore the stall of the pasta factory with cold meats and cheeses, with a swordfish in the foreground and the fishmonger’s; from the left to the right side are represented: the greengrocer, the butcher, the newsagent and other characteristic stalls up to the Persian carpet seller who, taking up the earthy colours that are characteristic of the painting, gives harmony and depth to the impressionist work.
