Joanna Dąbkiewicz-Luścińska

I studied painting in the art faculty at University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń under the guidance of professor Wojciech Sadley.

My work has appeared in many national, regional groups and individual exhibitions. I received a number of awards for painting and drawing.

My work skirts the boundary between abstract and representational art. I am fascinated by the expressive qualities of human form – both portrait and full body – thought I have a little interest in particular features. I am rather focused on the inner world that inspires them and the way the body’s natural fluidity expresses that inner drive both in gesture and pose, thoughts, feelings, imanginings, and all the other fleeting human moments. In that sense I’m most interested in capturing what threatens to disappear at every moment.

 In my artistic work I move primarily around three genres: landscape, abstraction and portraiture. This, however, does not cause any discord between them. There are clearly bonded by style I adopted. It is interesting to note that whatever is subjective is the most important in this style. It is not a detached analysis of the object, a dissection of reality with a ruler in my hand – quite opposite – it is seeking the sense beyond a common appearance. And in particular it encompasses the search for a manner to express experience with the help of spontaneously selected forms and colors.
