My name is Jana Kateřina Kastnerová (*1976), and I am a Czech visual artist. My work focuses primarily on original energetic paintings incorporating crystals and symbolic color compositions. I live and create in Choceň in the Czech Republic.
My creative journey began in childhood through drawing, clay modeling, decorative crafts, and small pen drawings inspired by the poetic atmosphere of towns, houses, and imaginary landscapes. Over time, my visual language evolved from traditional drawing toward intuitive and expressive creation, in which I work with various media such as colored pencils, tempera, acrylic, pastel, fillers, and natural materials.
One of my main sources of inspiration is nature—its colors, rhythm, and natural harmony. My visual expression is also influenced by traditional crafts, folklore, music, and the symbolic power of natural materials such as wood, stone, and crystals.
Alongside my artistic practice, I have studied fields such as communication psychology, nonverbal communication, color theory, and aromatherapy. I also completed studies in psychography (automatic drawing), which significantly influenced my intuitive creative process.
Artist Statement
In my work I explore the relationship between color, light, and energy as fundamental principles of human perception and inner experience. Painting is for me both an intuitive and conscious process in which I connect pure color structures, archetypal symbolism, and natural elements such as minerals and other natural materials.
I work with intense, unmixed color fields that create visually strong and energetically expressive compositions. These are complemented by simple symbolic forms—spirals, circles, triangles, hearts, or angelic motifs. I understand these symbols as universal archetypes that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries and refer to themes of unity, transformation, protection, and inner harmony.
An important element of my work is the use of real crystals and minerals, which I integrate directly into the structure of the painting. These natural elements expand the symbolic dimension of the artwork while reinforcing my long-standing interest in the relationship between color vibration, light, and human perception of space.
In some works I combine visual imagery with short inspirational texts. Words do not appear merely as accompaniment but become part of the overall composition. The dialogue between image and language creates space for personal interpretation, introspection, and inner resonance.
My artistic philosophy is based on the belief that color and light have the ability to deeply influence human emotions, the psyche, and life energy. I perceive them as tools capable of creating an atmosphere of calm, balance, and renewal within a space.
I also dedicate an important part of my work to children. Children’s imagination, openness, and intuitive perception of the world represent qualities that I consider essential for an authentic creative process. Through colors, images, stories, and texts, I seek to support the natural creativity and sensitivity of the inner world of children.
My works have been presented in a number of exhibitions throughout the Czech Republic and are now part of private collections both in the Czech Republic and internationally, including Slovakia, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, the United States, and Peru.
