Faye began painting as a young child. Her interest in and fascination for landscape and seascape was formed by the Scottish environment she grew up in. She has always explored the natural world specifically looking for the unusual, the close-up, the detail. Surrounded by hills and mountains in the west coast of Scotland encouraged Faye to paint the beautiful and imposing landscape such as Ben Lomond and the surrounding, Loch Lomond. Faye paints and draws in an expressive style, which can be semi-abstract. She uses acrylic, silk paint, watercolour and ink revealing a passion for colour which is evident in her vibrant work. Faye explores the form and texture of her subject matter by applying paint with gestural brushstrokes layering paint to reveal the essence and vitality of her subject matter.
Faye achieved a degree in Fine Art and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, spending her subsequent career teaching Art in Secondary Education. She loved sharing her skills and enthusiasm for Art and Design by assisting young people in developing their creativity. During this time, Faye continued her own artistic journey developing her skills in painting, photography, design and ceramics.
In 2015 Faye bought a home in the East Neuk of Fife and created a small studio. Living by the coast was the catalyst for her to immerse herself in producing artwork which reflected the seascape, harbours, boats, seaweed and crustaceans in her surroundings. Here, her inspiration and passion for painting accelerated and became her driving force, a real passion from within. She now had the time to devote herself to painting. She loves the everchanging light, the weather and the drama created by the tide and crashing waves. Early morning walks along the beach and the harbour with her wee dog, Archie continue to provide subject matter for her paintings. Faye became involved in exhibiting by joining East Neuk Open Studios, Pittenweem Arts Festival and exhibiting at The Bowhouse, Kayartonline and The Lillie Gallery. She contributes to the wider artistic community by doing demonstrations and workshops.
Faye also continues to travel and has found inspiration in Italy, Spain and Greece and the beautiful light and atmosphere she experiences there. This has added to her repertoire, and she continually adds to the series of paintings she has created from her travels.
