James was born inScotland in 1965 and began creating art and events around 1996 after being made redundant from a gardening job.
He had his first solo exhibition in Dunbar library, in 2006 and exhibits regularly aroundScotland. He began curatingland art exhibitions in 2018 .(Summer Hall basement studios , Edinburgh)
His recent art practice has developed from poetry & painting to land art , sculpture and photography.
In 2017 he created the European Stone Stacking Championships. This has successfully evolved into a week long, international land art festival (Elaf). Held annually in his hometown of Dunbar on the east coast. He opens his studio ( Church of Gloss ) regularly to visitors and is passionate about sharing the art of Stone Balancing throughout the world.
