I graduated from Edinburgh University LlB (Hons) in 1976 and MSc in 1984. I practised as a lawyer from 1978 to 1993 after which I was a Sheriff (judge in the Scottish Courts) until my retirement in 2016.
My work as an artist has been exhibited successfully in North East Scotland and I have exported to the United States.
Living in the North East of Scotland I draw inspiration from the landscape, seasons and ever changing weather. The colours and textures change from day to day and seeking to capture the atmosphere is at the heart of my work. There is always rhythm to be found in the landscape and I like to incorporate movement and energy in my pieces using colour and a variety of media to create vibrant, complex images. My landscapes are generally large scale works which allow me to be expansive in my mark making and to use the flow of the paint over the surface to create texture.
In my still life work I strive to draw the viewer into the textures and shapes still using bold strokes and colours but incorporating details to catch the eye and create interest
I feel that art should give joy and enhance our lives.
