After finishing her degree in neuropsychology, Merel Ellen decided to change direction and concentrate on the visual arts.

Starting with interior architecture at art school, she increasingly moved towards painting and drawing.

Now, she works full-time as a visual artist.

“I am still studying human behavior, relationships, and the environment, but now from a very different perspective.

Coming from Amsterdam and having lived and exhibited in London and New York, she now lives and works in a small village in the north of France.” Merel Ellen

Merel Ellen transforms her moods and insights into images with a certain mystique. Her work is inspired by the places she travels to and lives and her comprehension and confusion of human emotional and sensual states. With a background in (neuro)psychology and a vivid interest in different cultures and environments, she combines images into new, often colorful, and sometimes disturbing worlds.
