R. Wayne Reynolds
R. Wayne Reynolds was born in Arlington, Virginia on February 22, 1953. His frequent visits to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC began at the age of five. That experience combined
with his trips to the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum made an impermeable impression that formed the foundation for his love of art and nature. It also set the standard for his work as an
artist. He received his BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1975.
Artist Statement
The common denominator in the diverse body of work found in my practice is my continuous commitment to explore the micro and macro relationships of the natural world. My primary
goals are to maintain a strong connection with my creative energy, and to always be experimental. This allows me to transform my spontaneous compositions into visual
representations of that creative energy. I seek out new materials to express my new ideas, counting on the elements of risk and surprise to be foundational components of my work. To
balance the equation, I use discipline to achieve harmony, patience to deliver precision, and experience to provide clarity. I always enjoy refining, expanding, and sharing my abstract language of expression. I believe that art can be at once, intellectually grounded, mesmerizing,
and playful.
