The first in the series of urban landscapes, Vildecki Spleen, unveils a charming crossroads in one of Poznań’s districts—Vilda. Yet the theme of the cityscape is but a pretext, a mere threshold to deeper sensations stirred by the afternoon’s quiet siesta.

Look closer, and you may notice how our feelings shift, drifting like the clouds that sail across the sky. The trembling of colours and forms intensifies this sense of flow, even as everything hangs suspended in a single, fleeting moment. The painting’s rich texture allows the senses to resonate softly with one another, deepening the viewer’s immersion.

The ambiguity of the season—characteristic, after all, of the Polish climate—grants the viewer freedom to rediscover their bond with the image again and again. Is it winter, summer, or the dawn of spring that we witness here? The answer changes, shaped anew by the spectator’s present mood.
