The sublime – Lofoten #7
€150.00
Photopolymer print, photo based, limited edition to 10, size of image area 18×18 cm
Description
I photographed The Sublime during a trip to Lofoten, from Andøya in the north to Henningsvær in the south. I photographed the sublime landscape with a Hasselblad.
The pictures are photopolymer engravings that I printed on Hahnemühle cotton rag paper. Charbonnel Paynes Gray and Cranfield Etching Aquatint Black were used for the print, to give the desired dreamy expression.
Seven different motifs are printed in an edition of ten sheets each. All the images are original graphics, 180 x 180 mm and signed.
In the sublime landscape picture, the magnificent landscape is examined, which is both enjoyable and awe-inspiring. Edmund Burke published in 1757 an essay on the aesthetics of the sublime and beautiful.
The sublime is an undercurrent from the Age of Enlightenment in a romantic conception of nature, where man is confronted with nature’s higher power.
I belong to an Art and Craft tradition where I explore the landscape and man with inefficient historical photographic processes.
Slowness becomes meaningful. This means that I need to adapt my actions and establish a relationship between my inner self and the subject.
The slowness creates a contemplative state between what I see and experience.
