The Arrival of Spring

Kalidasa was a famous Indian poet and playwright and I grew up listening to his plays. His stories always made me dreamy and want to be a character in them. My favorite thing about his works is the descriptions he uses to paint a picture. I happened to read an excerpt of his Rtusamhara and was inspired by it to create something otherwordly.
To create something with an old world charm and I felt like a veil would add to that feeling. I also went for some vintage feeling background/wallpaper in greens and blues to use as a complementary to the reds and oranges. My model of course is talented and stunning and someone who features in my work over and over. I named this painting “The Arrival of Spring,” hoping to do justice to Kalidasa’s descriptions. Maybe he would have looked at the foliage of the background, the veil, and the overall feel of the painting and named it as such.
