Ancestors

Description

This is a man from  Khaelitsha Township, near Cape Town South Africa. The intense beautiful masks i found in that country were an inspiration to create this piece. With earth colors, the texture of sand, the shimmering of gold in the light on the face of the man, it gets a timeless atmosphere, almost dreamy and nostalgic. It promises treasures and hidden wisdom, passed from one generation on to the other. On the background there are  South African newspapers in different languages; in English and Xosa. The face and masks have been painted with oil.
