Made after a ski trip some years ago.
The colors are in accordance with Goethe’s theory of colors.
light, modified by darkness, gives warm colors. Goethe explains the colors of the sunrise by saying that we see the light from the sun through an obscuring, unclear medium – the atmosphere. Where the medium is densest – at the horizon – the sun’s color is red. Since we see the sun rising through progressively thinner layers of air, the color moves from yellow in the direction of white.
In Newton’s theory, darkness is simply the “absence of light”. In Goethe’s color theory takes,
however, darkness plays an active part in the genesis of colors on a par with white light. Goethe’s point of view is that cold colors arise when darkness is modified by light. The blue color of the sky occurs when a dark background space – is seen through an illuminated, cloudy medium such as the atmosphere.
