Man with tools 2
Handpainted using acrylic on a photographic print made on canvas, Man with Tools is a part of the painted photographic works that I did in 2010. The photographs were shot using a medium format film camera. Through staged realism of the anecdotal, I have tried to deconstruct and invoke an indirect allusion to the colonial practise of ethnographic photography. The anecdotal is transformed into a historicized referent signifying the occupation-based social division that had been the ideological base and historical determinant of the caste system and its present-day manifestations. The images seek to thematize the familiar and the socially recognizable in a formally uncoded and under-aestheticized representation of the everyday.
